Nearly nine months passed and Yure was due to give birth at any moment. Her banishment was imminent.

Soon Yuré's labor started, forcing her to call a midwife to come into the room.
The King was informed immediately of his sister's labor and he wasted no time to bear witness to the child's birth. He had taken precise precaution for this moment and made sure that no-one knew of her pregnancy with a half-ling. He had her moved down to a secret part of the palace, unknown to anyone except the King.

The guards assigned to her room immediately opened the doors for their king.

Yuré looked up at her brother with the biting cloth in her mouth as tears ran of pain ran down her face as another contraction hit, preventing her from screaming. The Elf King knelt down beside his sister, once again holding up an air of dignity as he clasped his sister's hand. Yuré squeezed her brother's hand as another contraction hit.

Hours passed and finally she was able to push the baby out.
"The baby is out! Congratulations Princess Yuré it's a boy..." The Midwife stopped when she looked at the child and saw his ears.
    "A...A half blood..." She muttered.
"Silence." The King ordered her. The Midwife remembered her place and then went about her duty. She cut the cord, cleaned the crying child.
"M-My son..." Yuré slowly sat up and reached for her son. The midwife handed the child to The Princess, and then turned to walk out of the room.
    "Wait." The King ordered.
The Midwife stopped and turned around, "My Lord...?"
"No one is to speak of this night, not the birth and not The Princess. This event never happened, and she was banished nine months ago and her whereabouts are unknown."
"Thank you My King." Yuré replied, "How is The Prince?"
"He misses you everyday, Lady Yuré. He is truly fond of you."
"And I him. He is like a son to me, my lord."
The King remained silent. Yuré then set her child on her lap for a moment and took off her bracelets,
"If it's not too high a request, I would like him to have these."
The King turned and looked at the bracelets and he added, "These were the ones that our mother left behind--"
"These are jewelry meant for royalty my King. And I am banished."
The King slowly bowed his head to his sister and took the bracelets, "I will see to it that he receives them."
    "My King, the escorts--"
"I will go alone." Yuré told him, "I've done so without protection once, I can do it again."
"You still have your sharp tongue."
"A tongue is a woman's only weapon. I will miss you my brother."
    "As will I you."
The King walked toward her and Yuré leaned over carefully and kissed her brother's ring.

A few days passed and the first signs of winter came when the first snow fell in the night. A cloaked figure holding a bundle was seen making her way into Dedalan's' castle while keeping out of sight as she rushed down the courtyard.
She stopped to catch her breath before she looked up and saw a lit candle on the window.

A chambermaid was busy dusting out the King's study when suddenly the windows burst open, letting all the cold air in. She screamed in shock and soon the sounds of a baby's cries echoed through the room. She turned to the window and saw a moving bundle placed on the window sill. She walked over toward the window and took the bundle, before she unveiled it revealing a baby, around a few days old there. Then she saw the baby's ears.
    "A half-ling."

Dedalan picked up the boy and said, "Little Harald...I think that's what I will call him."  He turned to the chambermaid and said, "You will speak nothing of this night or what you found is that clear?  He is a half-ling who was abandoned and I took him in, is that clear?"  The chambermaid bowed and he called a wetnurse and said, "You are to care for him and make sure he gets what he needs, is that clear?" She said, "Yes sire..."

Meanwhile Kunadan (the nephew) came into the throne room, "Yes father?  You summoned me?"

"Kunadan, I've a gift for you." The Elf King told him.
"A gift! What is it!?" Kunadan asked as he rushed up the steps to his father's throne before his nursemaid could even stop him.
The Elf-King waved his hand to one of the servants and brought forth a small chest and presented it to his son, who opened it eagerly and saw it was two bracelets.
"Father, these are aunt's bracelets--is she here--"
"She sent a messenger to have them brought here."
"So she isn't coming back--why isn't she coming back--"
"You will know in due time."
    "But father."
The King gave his son the stare, and the young elf prince immediately became quiet before he bowed and said,
"Thank you for the gift father."
The King nodded and watched as his young son walked down the steps to his throne and was led away by his nursemaid who immediately started scolding him for bringing up the banished Princess in his father's presence.

"...Pardon me, My King...if I'm put in his charge, does that mean I've been promoted sire?" The Chambermaid asked Dedalan nervously in regards to the half-ling.

Dedalan said, "Yes you have been promoted...you are promoted to Head Nurse.  Now please care for the little boy...Harald understand?"

She bowed, "Of course my king, and remember if you need anything at all...let me know."

Dedalan said, "We've been over this...never going to happen...now do your job."

She said, "Of course sire."  She went away with Harald to start nursing him.

Four years passed fairly swiftly and the boy had reached a young boy.

Meanwhile Kunadan and Nimue were walking together in the garden.  Nimue said, "Brother, that bracelet is so pretty, where did you get it?"

Kunadan said, "It was a gift from someone very important to me."

    She asked, "Who?"

Kunadan said, "Nimue, our father made me swear an oath to not speak of it, now please do not ask again."

Nimue stared at him and said, "Fine, but this isn't over...I will find out who gave that to you, I promise you that as an elven princess."  She slipped her leather boots off and sunk her feet in the water.  SHe sighed in relief, "Wearing those boots is painful at times, but I love them."

"Nimue, why is it so important for you to find the identity of the person who gave me these bracelets?" Kunadan asked as he sat down on a large rock, sharpening his arrowhead as his younger sister soaked her feet in the water.

Four year old Harald struggled to hold up his toy bow and arrow. The sweat poured down his brow, he turned and saw his father near the spectator pews watching him--suddenly the sound of an arrow hitting the target echoed beside him. Harald turned and saw his older brother and future king firing the arrows with ease.
"Prince Harald! Do not let your brother distract you. Focus!" His archery tutor scolded him. Harald took a deep breath and once again aimed his toy bow and arrow at the target before he released it.
The toy arrow barely flew and landed in front of the young prince's feet. His archery tutor shook his head in disappointment.

She said, "It just is alright? I don't know why, I just feel like there's a story I'm not being told and it's about family and you KNOW how I feel about family. If father did something to one of our family, I shall never forgive him for it, ever!" She jumped to her feet and said, "Now to swim." She slipped out of her clothes and was wearing a swimwear outfit underneath. She dove underwater and began to swim. She had always been good with the water and some had thought she was a water elf, not a wood elf at times. She poked her head up and asked, "You sure our mothers are the same? You hate the water and I adore it. I feel more at home in the water than anywhere else...oh and Kunadan, you can protect father all you want, I swear I'll find out someday." She placed her fingers pointing at her eyes then pointed at him and back and said, "I'm watching you." She slowly sunk under the water in a mystical way, partly creepy way as well.

Harald narrowed his eyes then he closed them and began to relax his mind. He notched an arrow to the bow and drew it back and fired without opening them. The arrow flew straight as...well an arrow and sliced his older brother's arrow clean down the middle. He placed the bow on the ground and said, "Is that better?"

Everyone was there was astonished, even the heir apparent was shocked to see how quickly his brother had mastered the bow and arrow. Seeing his chance Harald then pointed a head,
    "Look there!"
The archery tutor immediately drew his sword, precisely where he wanted and cut the thin piece thread holding a pail filled with honey and feathers.
A few seconds later the courtyard was filled with laughter as the king's best archer was covered in honey and chicken feathers. The feathers blocked his line of vision and he instinctively back away toward the stables and fell at another pail filled with soapy water that was placed directly on the horse pen lock.
Within seconds the untrained horses were free and galloped out of the stables.
Even Harald's older half brother was chuckling, when he heard screaming as the wild horses were galloping through the courtyard. Harald screamed in shock, realizing that his trickery had went too far. He, along with the audience, ran for safety to avoid being trampled on. The King and The Prince lost sight of the boy amidst the chaos. His older brother got on his horse and started riding through the stampede. The King and his men got on their horses and rode to find the boy.
"Harald!" The Prince found him and stretched his hand out for the little boy, but he couldn't reach him. The two brothers were separated once more. The Prince was forced to ride along with the sea of horses. Soon the stablemen and boys gathered rope and tried to catch whatever horses they could find. And within an hour the chaos died down and the dust cleared, revealing Harald squatting in the middle of the courtyard with his arms over his head. He looked up and saw that he was unharmed. Soon he saw a shadow coming toward him.
"Father!" He thought as he ran over. He suddenly stopped when he saw it was his older brother's mother standing there, looking down at him with nothing but slight contempt and disappointment in her eyes.

His father walked up and said, "My dear, I will handle this." He took his son by the hand and led him away and after they were alone he said, "What were you thinking? It was a good prank but really son? What if someone had been hurt? One of those horses nearly trampled you, they nearly got your brother as well! As of this moment you are to return to your room and will be missing out on dinner tonight." He saw his son's look of shock and continued, "This is not the sort of behavior I want from one of my sons. Look when I was your age, I played pranks as well, and...well it ended very badly. A nobleman's daughter was seriously injured from a stampede of bulls. Luckily she recovered in due time, but the damage was done and I was the fool. Now you think about what you did, and you will not speak to your mother or brother until I say otherwise, now go!" After he walked Harald back to the castle, he returned to his Queen and said, "He is being punished as we speak my dear. I apologize for his behavior, I am just glad that no one was hurt."

"As I am, but remember this your majesty. He's your son. Not mine." The Queen replied before she turned and then she said,
"I'm willing to tolerate him till he comes of age; but by then I no longer want him here."
    "My Queen--"
"Everyone else might be fooled but I'm not. He was born from your flesh and the flesh of another. I knew it from the moment you brought him here."
    "The boy's our son's brother--"
"Half-brother. You know full well what happens to the sons of kings. They will fight and they will compete. I will not condemn him now because he is a child, but I don't trust him."
The Queen then turned and took her leave.

    Later that night,

Harald turned when he heard a knock on the secret door,
"Harald, it's me." His brother replied. He walked toward and opened the secret passageway only to see his older brother bringing him food.
"You shouldn't be here, father will be angry."

He said, "Harald, I wanted to say, I thought your prank was amazing.  No one was hurt and it was funny.  I want us to be brothers forever!"

In the royal chambers he said, "Dear, you know I am not perfect, I never professed to be.  I have never seen his mother after that one night and I returned to you because it was the right thing to do.  I'm sorry I had that night, but you are taking it out on not only him, but our first born as well and it ends now.  I begged you for your forgiveness after you met Harald and you said you forgave me, and ever since then you have known where I am at all times and I accepted those terms because..."  He paused then he stared into her eyes, "Because I fell in love with you two years ago and have regretted my error in judgment.  I have just hoped that one day you will forgive me."  He sighed and left the room.

He paused by Harald's door and heard the sons talking and smiled before he went to the range and began firing arrows at the targets.

"How was my mother?" The Prince asked him. Harald turned to him and said, "She was...kind."
The Prince slowly nodded and then said, "That's good."
    "Why doesn't she like me?"
"It's not you that she doesn't like...it's, how you were born is what she doesn't like."
"Is it because we have different mothers?"
    "I would think so."
"I wonder what my mother was like?"
"Perhaps you will find out in time." The Prince replied.

The prince said, "Harald, you are my brother, no matter what happens we will be brothers. As for the mother who gave you life, I can't say much about her, never met her, but I'm sure things will be alright. Tell you what, I'll talk to mother for you." He hugged his brother then said, "I'm going to see her right now." He left the room and saw his father was shooting arrows again and sighed then went to their bedroom and opened the door and walked right in. He said, "Mother, I want to speak to you." He saw her cover up more and said, "Mother, I know you are clothed under there, father is out in the courtyard right now. I don't know why you are so upset at father, but it has to stop. It is upsetting me, and father spoke to me a few days ago and actually started crying in front of me. He loves you, loves me and loves Harald. I know you hate him for whatever reason, but it hurts me even more that you give hateful eyes to the brother I love. I want us to be a family again and I want to see you holding father, I want to see you hold my brother and actually love him. I know he isn't born from you, father and you have both told me that, but that doesn't matter anymore. Look please...just go see father in the courtyard."

The Queen turned to her son and then walked over toward her son before she wrapped her arms around him,
"My son, please understand, I don't want to hurt you, and I'm thankful that you can love your brother as you should. You both are your father's sons. If it pleases you, I will go see your father."
    "And my brother?"
The Queen took a deep breath and said,
"As the issue concerning Harald...I cannot blame for being born. But that doesn't make it easier for me. Love your brother, my son. The both of you have your father's blood running through your veins."
"I have forgiven your father for what he did, but I can never forget. I will go see him now." She replied before she turned to her son and said,
"Gone on now, it's late and your need your sleep."
    "Good night mother."
    "Good night my son."

Twenty minutes later, the Queen finally approached her husband and said,
"You've always shot arrows whenever you are troubled."

He turned to her and said, "Well I am troubled dear. I love you and I caused you a major pain...it's something I've never forgiven myself." He turned and fired another three arrows, hitting the bullseye each time. He sighed and lowered his bow and said, "It took me having Harald being delivered on the doorstep and having to earn your forgiveness for me to truly see that." He looked at her and said, "I know it isn't easy to see him, but he loves you. He keeps asking me why his mother hates him so much. What am I supposed to tell him?" He sighed and sat down and said, "I don't even know why I did it...but it almost felt like something destined to happen, I can't really explain it. That night...I planned to just speak to her about her kin and find out about them as I thought they were extinct. As she was about to leave, she froze when I stopped her as I had to know more, I had never met an elf before. She seemed to shake at that moment...like some vision was coming to her. She told me she had a vision but couldn't tell me its details. Then it just happened and we never saw each other again after that night." He looked into her eyes and said, "Dear, you have to believe me, I believe that Harald was meant to be born and I was meant to be his father for a reason. I don't know what that reason is, but I need you by my side from now on, and he needs you by his side as well. I have sworn to you time and time again that our eldest son will be getting the kingdom and that will not change, unless he becomes unfit to rule in your eyes." He plucked a flower and slipped it into her hair and said, "I know we were just arranged to be wed...but you were right about one thing, we did fall in love with each other and I don't want to see that thrown out because I had one night with another woman. Please dear...I need you, Harald needs you, Adeon needs you. If something happens to me, Harald will need you even more than ever. Something...something is coming. I can just feel it in my bones dear. I don't even know how I really know."

The Queen walked over toward him and then said,
"My King. I have loved you since the moment of our marriage. True, it was unexpected. I can accept most of your faults, but you full well that Harald knows I'm not his mother and he is not my son. I can tolerate him because he is a part of you. I've forgiven you but I cannot forgive her. Destiny or not, it doesn't change the hurt I feel whenever I see him. Don't push me to it; I will not condemn our son loving him. They are brothers. But we're not mother and son. If he needs me to council him in decisions regarding the kingdom. I will do so, out of duty. But not motherly affection. Don't force unnatural feelings toward me. Children are more observant than you think."

He said, "I know what I'm asking isn't fully natural...but..." He sighed and said, "What can I do to make this better? He needs someone to be there for him like a mother. He knows you're not his mother...but he needs someone and I don't know what else to do." He sighed and looked at the moon and said, "I'm going for a walk..." He looked back at her and said, "Don't worry, I have never seen her since that moment and I am not going near the woods, I just want to go somewhere to be alone." He kissed her on the cheek then walked off.

Adeon walked back to Harald and sat down next to him and said, "I don't really know what else to do brother...I know she isn't your mother, but I will keep trying on her."

"I'm alright. Adeon. She might not be my mother. But she is yours. I care for her because she's your mother. I have my nursemaid. She's kind to me."
    Adeon nodded and then said,
    "That's good I suppose."

    Three years later.

    "Lord Harald!"
The young seven year old prince turned away from his book and saw his nursemaid entering the room, "Come quick, your father summons you."
Harald got up and practically threw his book down before he rushed out of the library, his nursemaid tried to stop him,
    "Slow down! Slow down!"

"Father! Father! Are you going to take me hunting?!"
"No, slow down boy. There's been a traitor among us."
    "A traitor?" Harald asked.
"A deserter." Adeon replied as he walked over, "A knight, who abandoned his post and stole weapons. Father's come and asked us both to ride with him to bear witness to his sentence."
"Your majesty, Harald is just seven--" His nursemaid replied.
"Aye, I about his age when my father asked me to bear witness to an sentencing. The sooner they learn the better."
    "Yes, your majesty." She replied.

Dedalen led the procession with his two sons into the forest, chasing the deserter. He said, "Sons, we ride through the night, prepare yourselves!"

Adeon said, "Of course father, we keep the charge going."

OVer the next six hours they gained ground rapidly on the night then found a horse tied to a tree. Dedalan stopped the horses and raised his hand before he said, "I will take my sons alone from this point on, remain on guard here men in case our culprit escapes. That is his mare there after all." He jumped off his horse and said, "Gather thy swords lads, we chase the brigand until he is caught and then...he shall be executed." He led the way into the woods.

    Meanwhile...

Nimue was actually gathering flowers from the forest. She had snuck out, much to her father's displeasure. She had gathered about one hundred flowers when she darted behind a tree. She saw three humans approaching, and saw that another man was hiding behind a tree near her. She snuck up on the man and kicked him hard, pushing him out in the open.

The man turned and drew his sword, "Little freaky creature, you're DEAD!" He raised his blade.

Nimae covered herself with her elven cloak but she knew it would not save her from this brigand's blade.

Suddenly an arrow went flying out of nowhere, striking the man in the arm. The archery was Prince Adeon.
Nimae saw this as her chance to hide, and soon she made herself invisible.
"Adeon! Did you catch him?!" Harald asked as he rode his horse toward the area. "Go find father!" Adeon ordered. Harald nodded and rode way.
Nimue's eyes widen as she remained invisible, she saw the boy's ears. Though they were as long and pointed as her people's, they were still pointy at the ends.
    "Half-blood..." She whispered.

"Father! Adeon found the thief!" Harald shouted as he rode toward where he his father was.

Nimue followed him and watched carefully, she had to speak to this boy.

Dedalen said, "Good work Harald, I will meet with Adeon and prepare the thief, Harold, wait here for my return." He went into the woods.

Nimue saw this was her chance and called out, "Psst, you there...come here...psst!" She was still hidden in the trees, but she needed him to come see her.

Harald his head when he heard a voice in the shadows. Then he saw the bushes shuffle, but with no wind to blow it. He immediately drew his bow and arrow and aimed.
Suddenly a cloaked person appeared in front of him out of thin-air. Harald was stunned for a moment, but then snapped out it and drew his arrow at her.
"What sorcery was that?" He asked.

She smiled then said, "It isn't Sorcery, I'm an elf." She showed him the cloak, "See? It can make you hide from eyes." She showed how it made her vanish a bit and reappear. She said, "You're half blood aren't you? I know it because of your ears, why are you with humans? Is that your father I saw leave?"

"Yes, that was my father. And I'm an half-blood." Harald replied. Nimue smiled and said,
"It's so rare to see a half-blood around here."
    "I'm a prince."
"And I'm a princess! My father is the King of all the wood elves."
"Is that so? Why are you here alone Princess?"
    "Why are you?"
"My father asked me to stay here."
"My father tells me to stay in the palace too, but I don't see why? Humans are fascinating, and look at you! You're living proof that humans and elves can live together!"
"Well if you know what I am, then I can't be the only one."

She smiled and said, "Here..." She reached into her bag and pulled out her spare Elven Cloak. She said, "I can't stay long...I mean your father and the other boy will be back. Take this, I cannot allow a fellow elf to be without one of these." She moved close to him and looked into his eyes then said, "I have to see you again, promise me you will come back to these woods. Right where we are, I sneak out once a fortnight, I don't expect to see you each time, but at least come sometime."
